Let the compost dry between drinks
Many succulents store water in their leaves and stems. Water again when the mix is dry and the plant is in its active growing conditions, rather than following a daily calendar.
Drainage matters more than the number of days
A pot with a drainage hole and gritty mix is easier to manage than a decorative container that holds water around the roots. Empty standing water from saucers when practical.
Why the score is deliberately conservative
The plant type setting adds a strong brake to the watering score. If you are unsure, choose the succulent option and use the soil as the deciding evidence.
